A professional look and feel to the site should be created; balanced by the need for fast response times. Animation, Java applets, sound and video are implemented in a selective manner, not as gratuitous elements used to show off technical prowess. Visitors to your Web site are ultimately more interested in the content, and accessibility of that content, than in elaborate graphics. (Entertainment and gaming sites are exceptions to this rule.) The use of special features, when properly implemented, can add to the overall effectiveness of your site without trying the patience of your visitors.
